Terry Nelson, LSW Terry is a graduate of the Nathan Weiss School of Social Work at Kean University and is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in the state of New Jersey. Social Work is a second career for Terry. He had a long career in public education as a classroom teacher of foreign language and special education as well as vice principal. . During that time he worked successfully with adolescents with learning disabilities including those on the autism spectrum. Terry also worked in Paris for the French Cultural Service doing translations and voice overs for sound and light presentations that were presented globally in select museums throughout the world including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. He was a counselor at Offenders’ Aid and Restoration in Newark , N.J. His focus was post incarceration supporting each client as they faced new challenges addressing their individual emotional needs in their new and unfamiliar environment. He was part of a Social Work team in the dual diagnosis department.of a psychiatric hospital. He ran groups and did individual counseling helping patients begin to restructure their lives. Terry worked at Mental Health Associates of Morris and Essex Counties as a case worker assisting clients in their efforts to achieve independent living providing emotional support as they transitioned from an institutional setting. Terry is familiar with 12 Step programs: Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families . He works with adolescents and adults as they learn to change their narrative in order to overcome those limitations that hold them back from experiencing a new and better sense of who they are.
